Woman Warned Not To Eat Red Egg After Cracking It Into Pan
A woman was left confused when she cracked an egg into a pan, only to discover it was pinky-red in colour.
A woman cooking a meal for her kids was left shocked when cracking an egg to find it was a strange pinky-red in colour.
Beena Sarangdhar, from Hertfordshire, was cooking some fried eggs for her children when she made the bizarre discovery, claiming she screamed as she'd never seen a pink egg before.
Speaking to Herts Live, Beena said: "I fancied some egg yesterday and cracked open the egg in the frying pan as normal, then as it fell into the pan I screamed as I have never seen a pink egg before.
"The kids came running to see what had happened and their reaction was typical, [they went] 'errrr'. I then cracked the other two eggs from the same box but they were normal.
"It was really weird because they were in date and just the last few left."
Beena understandably chucked away the bizarre egg which looked far from appetising. After posting the image to a local Facebook page, she was told that she was right to do so, with users informing her the egg shouldn't be eaten as it was potentially full of bacteria.
She did, however, admit that while they were initially put off from eating, soon 'everyone fancied some egg on toast!'
A quick Google search sheds a bit of light on why exactly the egg had this unusual hue.
Apparently, egg whites that have turned pink or pearly-white indicate spoilage due to Pseudomonas bacteria, which can cause headaches, swelling, and even pneumonia in humans. For this reason, they're not safe to eat and should be discarded. It's not every day you see a pink egg - nor should you want to!
