Boots Expands Packaging Recycling Scheme To 650 More Stores

Boots is expanding its recycling initiative for beauty, health and wellness packaging from 50 to a further 650 stores!
That’s right, our headline sponsor for week six of our welcome week campaign is not only offering TOTUM members an amazing 10% student discount both in-store and online, but is also celebrating the one year anniversary of its pioneering sustainability project.
The scheme sees customers encouraged to return their empties in exchange for rewards, aiming to reduce the waste of hard-to-recycle packaging like toothpaste tubes and makeup palettes.
For every five items of eligible packaging deposited at the in-store recycling points, customers get 250 Boots Advantage Card points worth £2.50 when they spend £10 or more in store.
If you want to take part, all you have to do is register for the initiative on Boots’ website, take a photo of each item you wish to recycle, and upload it 24 hours before depositing it in a participating store and scanning the QR code on the recycling box.
The empties are then sent off to Boots’ recycling partner MY Group, who will transform them into new products such as the reusable storage containers used in the pharmacy retailer’s warehouse.
The scheme is intended for packaging that cannot typically be recycled by local authorities, meaning you’ll get rewards for dropping off things like lipsticks and mascaras but not shampoo, conditioner and shower gel bottles as they’re already widely collected, with the eligibility of the packaging assessed from the photos you upload before drop-off.
So far, the scheme has seen half a million items recycled, with Lucy Reynolds, Boots director of communications and CSR saying: “We are delighted with the reception the Recycle at Boots scheme has had - the reaction from our customers has been overwhelmingly positive.
“We’ve listened to their feedback and as a result are rolling the scheme out further, making it easier than ever for our customers to recycle their empty products that would usually go to landfill.”
