Cat Jumps From Fifth Floor Of Burning Building, Bounces, Walks Away | TOTUM

A fearless feline may well have used up one of its nine lives after hurling itself from a fifth floor window to escape a fire.

The incident, which took place in Chicago, was caught on camera by the Fire Department as personnel on the scene took video of the exterior of the apartment block.

While working to extinguish the blaze, firefighters saw the black cat appear through billowing smoke at a broken window.

The cat briefly tested the side of the building with its front paws - seemingly trying to see if climbing down was an option before deciding against it and launching itself instead.

Onlookers could be heard to gasp as the cat fell, however it appears to have judged the situation pretty perfectly, narrowly missing a wall and landing on all four paws on a patch of grass before bouncing once and running off.

“It went under my car and hid until she felt better after a couple of minutes and came out and tried to scale the wall to get back in,” said fire department spokesman Larry Langford.

Mr Langford confirmed that the cat was not injured and said he was trying to track down its owner.

In more good news, no injuries were reported after the fire, which the fire department confirmed was confined to one apartment.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been reported by officials, nor how much damage resulted.
