In a hit to all our fond childhood memories, Disney has announced it is closing down its kids TV channels in the UK.

But don’t worry, it’s not all bad news, as it will all be moving over to Disney+!

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, a Disney spokesperson said that The Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney XD will go off air in the UK on September 30th.

In a statement, the spokesperson said: "From October 1st,  Disney+ will become the exclusive home for content from Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior in the UK.

"The direct-to-consumer service, which garnered more than 54.5 million subscribers worldwide in its first seven months, will now premiere all the latest films, series and specials from the three Disney Channels, along with offering a rich and expansive back catalogue of Disney Channel titles in the UK, including Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Descendants 3 and Phineas and Ferb."

However, other channels owned by Disney, including Fox and National Geographic, will continue to be broadcast as normal.

The statement continued: "The Walt Disney Company remains committed to our kids channels business and continues to execute distribution agreements for Disney channels in many markets where Disney+ is also available, with the goal of giving our fans multiple entry points to our storytelling.”

Launched in the UK back in February, Disney+ has been a huge hit, gaining over 50 million subscribers in its first five months. And it’s no surprise as the subscription service plays host to hundreds of films from the Disney’s back catalogue as well as Pixar classics, every episode of The Simpsons, and loads of brand new exclusive content such as Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian

Initially launched with a free 7-day trial to give potential customers a taste of what they could expect, Disney+ has now announced it is scrapping the freebie period.

Speaking to Variety, a spokesperson said: "We continue to test and evaluate different marketing, offers and promotions to grow Disney+.

"The service was set at an attractive price-to-value proposition that we believe delivers a compelling entertainment offering on its own."

The company say its streaming audience has almost doubled during lockdown and, as of April, had more than 50 million subscribers worldwide.
