Lucasfilm has announced that Actor Gina Carano will not be returning to the Disney+ television series The Mandalorian, due to ‘abhorrent and unacceptable’ posts on social media.

The move comes after the former mixed-martial-arts fighter who had starred in films including Deadpool and Haywire posted comments online appearing to compare the treatment of Republicans in America to that of Jewish people in Nazi Germany.

Carano, who played bounty hunter Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, wrote on a now removed Instagram post: “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbours … even by children … Because history is edited, most people today don’t realise that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbours hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”

The actor has also been let go from her agency, UTA, however, this isn’t the first time Carano has courted controversy.

The 38-year-old has previously come under the spotlight after being accused of mocking people who state their preferred pronouns, by placing the words ‘beep/bop/boop’ on her Twitter profile, sharing conspiracy theories about the result of the US presidential election, and ridiculing the wearing of masks to protect against Covid-19.

In a statement, Lucasfilm said: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Carano’s dismissal from the show follows a long-running campaign by Mandalorian fans for her to be fired using the hashtag FireGinaCarano.

In December, Lucasfilm announced Rangers Of The New Republic, a further spin-off from The Mandalorian which would have looked likely  to have a role for her character, however the studio has yet to announce a cast and will now be moving forward without Carano.
