Nando's Launches Its First Ever Meat-Free 'Chicken' Burgers, Wraps & Pittas

In exiting news for vegetarians across the land, Nando’s is launching tis first ever completely plant-based meat alternative.
Appropriately named ‘The Great Imitator’ the exciting new addition to the geeky chicken joint’s menu has been created to taste exactly like its signature PERi-PERi chicken breast fillet.
It will be available to order both in restaurants and online from tomorrow (Tuesday October 13th), and will consist of four strips of the meat alternative grilled to serve, which you can then choose to heat up with Nando’s standard selection of signature PERi-PERi sauces.
Although The Great Imitator is made entirely from Pea Protein and the meal is entirely plant-based, Nando’s have decided not to call it vegan as it is cooked in the same kitchen as its meat products and they can’t totally eliminate the risk of cross contamination.
Dawn Carr, Director of Vegan Corporate Projects at PETA, said: "PETA is delighted to have played a part in Nando's journey to putting this delicious plant-based chicken on the table.
"Nando's can't guarantee zero risk of cross-contamination, so it's not calling it vegan, but as all the ingredients in the burger and pitta versions are completely animal-free - right down to the mayo - we say these are an excellent choice for vegans, vegetarians, meat-reducers, and chickens. Cluck yes!"
But it doesn’t end there - Nando’s is also launching another entirely plant-based offering in the form of its new Sweet Potato Wedges with Garlic PERinaise to go alongside The Great Imitator, with10p from each purchase going to Nando's Fighting Marlia.
If you fancy a real treat, why not see if you can bag yourself a free Nando’s this month?
Last week the chain revealed that it will be giving away free meals every Wednesday this October.
The chain is giving diners 12,500 chances to win a free meal as each Nando's restaurant will be choosing one lucky table at random to receive a discount code ranging from £10-£20 - which will be automatically applied to their order.
So obviously if you’re not spending too much you’ll be able to walk away without paying a penny for your meal - not too bad at all.
The lucky table promotion will be running on Wednesdays from October 7th-28th, and to be in with a chance of winning all you’ll have to do is purchase an item off the menu.
The winners will be the diners who are sat at the lucky tables during the promotion period and the times will be pre-determined by Nando's before the promotion starts.
In a nice twist though, the winners will be notified that they’re one of the lucky ones when ordering their meal - meaning you can upgrade your order and treat yourself to allow for the cash back, what a great surprise eh?
