For those of us who enjoy a good fright-night, there’s a spot of rather exciting news as Netflix is set to release a new documentary about some of America’s most haunted places…

According to Variety, the as-yet-untitled series is described as a 'gritty and meticulous study' of some of 'America's most haunted locations'.

Although details are a bit lacking at the moment, it seems reasonable that we can expect everything from abandoned prisons, asylums and former stately mansions to historic landmarks and remote farmhouses on nour spooky tour of the States.

However, one thing we can be absolutely sure of is that whatever journeys we’re taken on will be worth it as it’s been confirmed that director Joe Berlinger will be running the project.

Berlinger’s recent credits include this year's Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes and feature film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, which both delved into the life of infamous serial killer Ted Bundy.

The series is one of two projects that Netflix has acquired from Ron Howard and Brian Grazer's Imagine Entertainment - the other of which is a show focusing on sexual abuse in the Catholic church.

Gabe Spitzer, director of original documentaries at Netflix, said: "The Imagine team have quickly built a first-rate division working with many of the industry's top documentary filmmakers.

"We're excited about the rich and compelling series coming to Netflix and look forward to sharing these with our members around the world."

There’s no information regarding a potential release date for either of Imagine Entertainment's new Netflix shows just yet, but in the meantime, if you’re hungry for a bit of a true crime fix, why could try some of these (if you haven’t already of course).

Netflix have also recommended Shadow of Truth, Casting Jonbenet, Evil Genius, The Confession Tapes, The Keepers, Wild Wild Country, Captive for 18 Years: The Jaycee Lee Story and Abducted in Plain Sight - which many viewers described as one of the ‘most twisted pieces of television they’d ever seen’.

The bizarre programme tells the true story of Robert Berchtold, who kidnapped his friends’ 12-year-old daughter and fled to Mexico where he tried to brainwash her into believing she was an alien, and that her ‘mission’ was to conceive a child with him by her 16th birthday in order to ‘save the alien planet’.

That should keep you going!
