Why every student needs an Amazon Prime Student membership

Ben Smith July 8th

It seems like the world revolves around Amazon these days. With the rise of online shopping and digital streaming, there’s just no avoiding the retail giant! Not that we’re complaining… there’s plenty of reasons to get excited about Amazon - especially if you’re a student.

Amazon Prime Student

What is Prime Student?

Amazon Prime Student is an exclusive membership program created for students. As a member, you are given access to many perks starting with a six-month trial that includes free two-day shipping on over 50 million items, unlimited streaming of Prime movies and television shows, unlimited photo storage with Prime Photos, 20% off pre-order and new release video games, exclusive deals and savings, and more. After your six-month trial ends, your Prime Student membership makes you eligible to receive 50% off Amazon Prime, including access to all Prime benefits.

Is it the same as Amazon Prime?

Not exactly.

Amazon Prime is the premiere membership program, costing either £7.99 a month or £70.99 a year – the one-off annual payment works out cheaper than the monthly subscription.

Similar to Prime Student, you can subscribe to Amazon Prime membership for free for 30 days. Not happy with the service? No problem. You can unsubscribe at any point within that time, without paying a penny.

If you’re only interested in watching TV shows and movies, and not too fussed about all the other Prime perks, you might want to save some money by subscribing to Prime Video which is a few quid cheaper.

Other than price, the main difference between Prime and Prime Student during the free trial periods is that while Prime gives you full access to every one of its services, it’s not the case with Prime Student – as expected, of course, given that you’re given a half-a-year access for absolutely free. The main services that aren’t included within the free Student Prime trial are Prime Music, Prime Reading, Amazon Pantry and the Refer-A-Friend bonus scheme.

Is It Worth it?

It’s a no brainer. Really.

Not only does it cost nothing to subscribe, you’ll also enjoy:

Prime Early Access – exclusive access to incredible daily deals 30 minutes before they’re released to the world.

Up to 90% off Textbooks – massive savings on textbooks, as well as the ability to rent them, and trade them in for an Amazon Gift Card.

Deals and promotions – Prime Student collaborates with hundreds of vendors to hand-pick amazing deals just for students.

Other handy perks include free same-day delivery and free two-hour delivery (depending on where you live). Forgot to buy a pair of shorts before your flight? Amazon could come to the rescue!

Overall, Amazon Prime Student comes with more or less all the benefits you can think of – better yet, you can use it until the day you graduate, or a maximum of four years from the day you subscribe.
