Discount site Wowcher is offering package trips inside the Chernobyl exclusion zone from as little as just £169 per person.
The price covers flights to Kiev from a selection of UK airports including London Stansted, Luton, or Manchester, two or three days in a hotel and a day trip to the Chernobyl exclusion zone itself.
Following the runaway success of the HBO series that followed the tragic events of 26th April 1986, the area has seen a 40% increase in the amount of tourists wanting to visit the abandoned site.
Unfortunately it seems that not everyone has been behaving entirely appropriately during their visit. Writer and producer of the HBO series, Craig Mazin, has reminded tourists to 'comport' themselves when visiting the exclusion zone, reminding them that 'a terrible tragedy occurred there’ after a number of distasteful images surfaced online.
Taking to Twitter, Mazin wrote: "It's wonderful that #ChernobylHBO has inspired a wave of tourism to the Zone of Exclusion."
"But yes, I've seen the photos going around. If you visit, please remember that a terrible tragedy occurred there. Comport yourselves with respect for all who suffered and sacrificed."
But - for those who can appreciate the gravity of the place - the trip includes passing through the Dytyatky Checkpoint into the area immediately surrounding the stricken power plant. You’ll experience a guided tour of the area taking in the giant sarcophagus that has just been completed to contain the dangerous levels of radiation still being emitted from reactor four.
You’ll also visit the abandoned village of Kopachi, getting the opportunity to explore the derelict buildings, empty streets and abandoned hospitals frozen in time for over 20 years as well as the ghost city of Pripyat and the Duga radar station - a Cold War defence system that now stands alone and useless in the wilderness.
The two day package costs £169 per person whereas the three day stay is £219 per person, with both prices based on two people sharing - meaning you’ll have to buy two vouchers.
Once you've secured your voucher you have two days to book and until March 31st 2020 to head off on your trip, but don’t hang around, the offer closes on 2nd July.
