If you’re looking to up and change location but don’t necessarily have the funds available to do so, we could’ve found just the solution…

If it’s a beautiful holiday destination you’re after, you could do worse than a little-knownItalian destination known as the 'Maldives of Europe’

But if it’s a more permanent life of living it up with a combination of delicious food and drink, stunning scenery and a laid back attitude to life is something you dream of, you may be interested to know that a new offer, directly targeting young people, can see you literally being paid to move to Italy!

The Northern Italian city of Mantua, situated in Eastern Lombardy is offering to pay people €150 a month (roughly £130 for one year) to go towards their rent as an incentive to get young people to move there.

With an increasingly ageing population, the scheme is trying to encourage young people and families to move to the city and see what it has to offer.

The local council has decided to make 400,000 euros available (200,000 from September 2023 and another 200,000 for next year) to finance one hundred applications each year.

According to mayor, Mattia Palazzi, the aim is to ‘attract new residents while at the same time trying to promote the renovation of the many vacant houses in the city, which are often ignored by their owners’.

But don’t go thinking Mantua is a dusty old, empty, run-down kinda town - it’s actually an award-winning place to live thanks to its warm climate, architecture, and cuisine.

The scheme will be aimed at professionals with salaries of around 1200-1500 euros per month and who will have to sign a rental contract for at least one year. There will be an income threshold yet to be established, while this particular get paid to move to Italy application for 2023 will soon be available.

“There will be many new job offers in the next two years,” the mayor assured. “There are several companies that are investing and setting up in Mantua, particularly in the logistics sector. In addition to the Valdaro port, we are seeing the growth of several companies including Adidas, Corneliani (now expanding after the crisis), Opto Engineering and MyNet, which are hiring young people.”

Applications will open in September so if this sounds like something you need to be involved in, keep an eye out for when you can officially apply!
