What is Black Friday?
Originating in the US, Black Friday sees retailers cut prices on a huge range of items the day after Thanksgiving. But recently, the UK has well and truly been bitten by the Black Friday bug, with Black Friday fast becoming a key date in the retail calendar.
In 2014, Black Friday was the peak pre-Christmas online sales day. In 2015, 2016 and 2017, increasing numbers of retailers launched sales in the days leading up to Black Friday - extending the peak period further still.
As a result you can expect major UK retailers from Amazon, to Argos to Tesco to slash prices on loads of products
When is Black Friday 2019?
This year Black Friday falls on November 29th. Expect to see both shops and online retailers competing to bring shoppers the very best deals on everything from big-budget electrical items and beauty gift sets, to kitchen equipment, clothes and even toys.
It’s best to set those alarms nice and early if you’re planning to hit the high streets this Black Friday, as some UK stores opened as early as 6am last year, and believe you me, people were there waiting!
What deals can we expect?
It's still too early to know what the specific deals for Black Friday 2019 will be, but we can always look at what the trends were last year to give ourselves a bit of an insight...
In 2018 Amazon, Currys PC World and John Lewis all cut prices on electricals, while Boots, Mankind and other beauty retailers also offered some hefty discounts.

If last year is anything to go by, the most popular sellers will be consumer electronics. In 2018 best-sellers included the Sony Playstation 4, the Bose QuietComfort Noise Cancelling headphones, the Huawei P20 and the Dell Inspirion 13 laptop.
It's still too early to tell exactly which deals to expect this year, but we can predict there'll be discounts on some of 2019's most popular products. Things like wireless headphones (think Apple Airpods), tablets, and of course smartphones - so keep an eye out for deals on the Google Pixel 3A and OnePlus 7 Pro this year.
