Towels, and bikinis, both absolutely essential for a day spent lounging around on the beach or by the pool - or so you thought…
It turns out that, contrary to popular belief, you no longer need to own both a swimsuit and a beach towel, so banish that thought from your head right now.
Oh no, thanks to the innovation that is the ‘towelkini’ you can now enjoy all the perks of the two-in-one, presumably including trying to swim while wearing a massive towel.
Created by New York-based designer Aria McManus, the towelkini is priced at an astonishing £156 and ships all the way from the US for around £26.65 - so you better really, really want one!
You can choose between Hot Pink and Athletic Gold, but no need to worry about working out what size you’ll be needing - true to its practical roots, the towelkini is one size fits all.
The product description reads: "Towelkini by Aria McManus melds the two essentials for all things beach, no need to carry a cumbersome towel and an easy to lose swimsuit-here they come as one, materialized as ideal.
"Keep the baes at bay, have all your haters throw in the towel when they lay eyes on you in this.
"Put the OW in towel, make them wish they were the sun of your beach. Follow suit, make this the one piece you get laid on the beach in."
The one potential (very real) drawback that people have spotted with the towelkini is that - while the product seems to have been designed to remove the need to wear a swimsuit - if you do decide to take that approach, it’s fairly likely you’ll be removed from the beach as it leaves your back half completely exposed.
So, you can’t really swim in it, you can’t sunbathe in it, you can probably dry yourself with it, but I’m almost certain you can pick regular towels up for slightly less money.
I’ll leave you to make up your own minds…
