You guys have been incredibly generous and we can't thank you enough.

For the past two years our charity partner here at TOTUM has been the Fairtrade Foundation - who work to address the injustices of conventional trade, enabling workers from some of the world's poorest areas to improve their position and have more control over their lives.

Earlier this year, we added up all of the money our wonderful TOTUM card holders have donated to the cause - and we're proud to say you've raised a total of £13,000!

The money raised has gone towards the building and kitting out of a fantastic new digital classroom at Malisara Primary School in Rapar, India.

Back in 2016 NUS student officers visited the school as part of a trip to see the difference Fairtrade is making, and learnt than many children in rural communities don’t get the chance to apply to university because they haven’t got access to computers.

However, all that is set to change as the new digital classroom will provide the facilities required for students to access online resources - and a lot of it is down to the generosity of TOTUM members!

But, this doesn't mean we want to kick back - now the digital classroom has been built it's on to the next project...

This year, our new charity partner will be Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK).

SOS-UK is NUS’ fantastic new sustainability charity, set up so NUS can go further and faster with its amazing sustainability campaigns in response to the climate emergency and ecological crisis.

SOS-UK has launched an amazing new campaign on climate education called Teach the Future.

Working with UKSCN, the school strikers organisation, Teach the Future sets out to make the climate emergency a learning entitlement across all forms of education and to make all educational buildings net-zero carbon by 2030 as a national infrastructure priority.

SOS and UKSCN are planning a parliamentary reception in the House of Commons on February 26th 2020 to engage new and returning MPs in the campaign, and have offered TOTUM four places for keen, green students who want to be there to help persuade MPs to take action on climate education.

If you're practically chomping at the bit to be involved, you and a friend can nominate yourselves by completing a form here

To win one of these spots all you have to do is tell us why you think you and your friend should be chosen, in under 200 words, by 12 noon on Wednesday, February 12th. SOS-UK will cover UK travel and accommodation to attend the reception and there will be a Skype briefing that you will both need to attend in advance. You will need to be available to attend the reception in London on Wednesday, February 26th.

If you'd like to support their amazing student-powered campaign, and help shape the future, please visit the SOS-UKSCN crowdfunder here.
